Extreme Chairing presents Trail Ride 2006.
This is the longest ride of the year, all taking place through the forest and
spanning a total of 40 miles that will take 2 days too complete all in a
wheelchair . The starting point of the Trail ride is at Beck Lake forest preserve
in Glenview IL. and will end at the Wisconsin state border. The event was held on 8/26/06 and Extreme Chairing and all participants raised
money for spinal cord injury research, and for ExtremeChairing.com
60% of all the money that is raised will go towards spinal cord injury research,
and will also be donated to the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation.
40% will be used to pay for Extreme Chairing yearly expenses and most
importantly keep Extreme Chairing rolling.
Extreme Chairing dedicates its time and efforts to let both the able bodied, and
the disabled community know about extreme and alternative sports that are
available and performed by disabled athletes. Many sports such as 4 Cross,
Body Surfing, Sit Ski, and Chairing have been around for some time but are
not widely known about. Extreme Chairing not only helps promote many of
these sports, but also gives people a place to find out more information about
them. Extreme Chairing has also helped a new sport called Power Wheelchair
Racing get started.
There are not many sports for people with high level injuries, and disabilities
with limited mobility. Power Wheelchair Racing can be done by anyone who
is in, or has a power chair. A big loss when a person gets a disability is they
lose much of there independence. When a person is out on those trails or track
they are in control. They are not only competing against others, they are also
competing against nature, and there personal best. This sport is great for the
mind, body, and soul. It turns a wheelchair into wings and gives a person a
sense of the freedom and independence they once had, or never had.
Extreme Chairing is a non profit organization that is looking for individuals
and companies to donate or sponsor towards Trail Ride 2006. The money
raised is for a very noble cause and will help both the progression towards a
cure for spinal cord injuries, and the progression and growth of Extreme
Chairing. There are many ways to help support these sports and this event,
either by participating, volunteering, or being a sponsor. Everyone’s
involvement is very important. . |
